Vidova Gora, Brac Island
The moment I reached the summit and caught my first glimpse of that legendary view, I understood why so many travelers consider this the crown jewel of the Dalmatian islands. Standing at 778 meters above the sparkling Adriatic, I found myself completely speechless — and trust me, that doesn't happen often.
Vidova Gora is the highest peak on all the Croatian islands, and making the journey to the top felt like earning a reward I didn't know I needed. I drove up the winding road from Bol, though plenty of adventurous souls hike the trail instead (about 2-3 hours from the town). Either way, what awaits you at the summit is nothing short of magical.
The panorama stretches endlessly — the famous Zlatni Rat beach below looks like a tiny golden tongue licking the turquoise sea, while the island of Hvar floats dreamily in the distance. On crystal-clear days, you can even spot the mainland mountains. I sat there for nearly an hour, completely mesmerized.
What makes Vidova Gora special:
⛰️ The Summit Viewpoint — An unobstructed 360-degree panorama that will take your breath away, hands down the best view in Dalmatia
🏖️ Zlatni Rat from Above — See Croatia's most photographed beach from a perspective most visitors never experience
🥾 Hiking Trails — Well-marked paths through fragrant Mediterranean vegetation, perfect for nature lovers
🐑 Local Wildlife — Keep your eyes open for the island's famous sheep and soaring birds of prey
📸 Photography Paradise — Golden hour here is absolutely spectacular, so time your visit accordingly
🪨 Famous Brac Stone — The island's white limestone built Diocletian's Palace and even the White House
🌿 Native Flora — Sage, rosemary, and wild herbs perfume the mountain air
There's a small restaurant near the top where I treated myself to local cheese and a glass of wine while soaking in the view — simple pleasures that felt utterly luxurious in that setting.
Whether you're a dedicated hiker seeking adventure or simply someone who appreciates extraordinary beauty, Vidova Gora delivers an experience you'll carry with you long after you've descended. Pack comfortable shoes, bring your camera, and prepare to fall completely in love with this island gem.
